How had destruction come so quickly?

I could scarcely believe how we could be laying her on the ground, dying, from the searing, roaring orange flames that danced in the night. This was supposed to be the happiest nigh in our town, it was Christmas! No one was supposed to die.

I stared down at my immobile legs, trapped under a fallen roof beam, I couldn't help but wonder if my brother, Jacob, was alright. I prayed to every god I knew for his and my family's safety.

I felt the fire lapping at my back, felt the smoke burning my lungs. Everything in me burned and ached in agony, I'd lost the fight I'd been so known for. I closed my eyes. So this was to be my death? I, Emelie Durin, was going to die not from anything remotely interesting or exciting but from an accident, from a fire caused by a drunkard knocking over a lantern. I wanted to sigh but it was hard enough to breath.

I grimaced as the flames enveloped me, closing my eyes to hide them from what would come soon enough.

I could hear people screaming in the village, hear shouted commands that were quickly drowned out.

The pain was beginning to dim but I knew death was close, I could feel myself slipping away, could feel my life draining from my body as around me my home burned and crumbled to nothing. I felt tears pricking the backs of my eyes. I was terrified but I wanted one last look. One last look of the world before I disappeared forever.

I opened my eyes and looked up. I saw through a burning hole in the roof, past the smoke and flames, the shining stars and the large silver moon watching silently. The moon seemed to be gazing sadly at me, the night didn't want me to die. Terror once again engulfed me and my thoughts flew to my younger brother.

Please Jacob, I thought as the shade of death encroached on my vision, stay alive... and remember me.

I thought I heard him when I felt myself slip away, felt death's cold grip finally grasp on and tear me away. My last vision was of that hole in my roof, red flames raging and smoking curling and beyond that, a cold silent night that watched the world burn.

In the end I saw destruction and hope. I saw beauty and chaos. I saw transience and permanence. I saw death and life. I saw my own mortality and the immortality of destruction.

I saw fire.

This is what happens when I'm allowed to roam free on youtube on a Friday night. I somehow managed to stumble upon the most amazing song in all of existence. I adore it and while this is in no way related to The Hobbit or barely even the song this still kinda popped out of my brain. If there are errors sorry but I'm tired and sick feeling and wanna sleep. So enjoy dudes!

Inspiration: I See Fire by Ed Sheeran
Everything except the song belongs to me.
